The Right Direction

“…how can we know the way?” John 14:5

The building where I work in downtown Pittsburgh is located near the river on the edge of town. Since the area contains no shops or restaurants, people don’t usually wander down that way unless they work there. So I was surprised when I was leaving the building one Friday eve- ning and saw two people wearing Philadelphia Phillies t-shirts walking my direction. Certain that they were in town for the Phillies/Pirates game that night, I chuckled and said, “You’re going the wrong way.”

“We parked our car, and the attendant told us which way to go, but I guess we got lost,” the woman said. Because I was heading toward PNC Park on my way home, I suggested they walk with me and led them to their destination.

Sometimes we know where we want to go but we don’t know how to get there. But our ultimate goal should be heaven, and we know how to get there because Jesus tells us that He is the way—the only way: “I am the way and the truth and the life,” Jesus says in John 14:6. “No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Let’s make sure we’re moving in the right direction when it comes to eternal life.
