Devotional of the Week: Eternal Plan

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11

It was gratifying, as a purist, to watch how the Kansas City Royals hustled to the World Series title last season. Their game plan throughout the playoffs was to be aggressive on offense, put pressure on their opponent’s defense, and hopefully benefit from it.

It paid off in Game 5 when Eric Hosmer scored the tying run from third base in the ninth inning on an errant throw.

In Genesis 22:1, God told Abraham to go to Moriah and sacrifice Isaac. In I Chronicles 21:18, God tells David to build an altar on Ornan’s threshing floor. In II Chronicles 3:1, Solomon builds the temple “on Mt. Moriah,” on “Ornan’s threshing floor.” In Ezra 3:12, the Jews rebuilt the destroyed temple on its ruins. John 2:20 implies Herod expanded it.

Demolished by the Romans in 70 A.D., the temple will be rebuilt by the Israelis on the same site someday, and the “man of lawlessness” will “sit as God in the temple” (II Thessalonians 2:3-4). After his overthrow, Ezekiel 47:8 describes a healing river, flowing from the temple.

Since God has such a plan (4,000 years and counting) for this piece of property, He has a plan for you. Turn to Jesus. Follow Him. His plan for you is eternal.
