ONE COACH: Pressing On to a New Season

Before you begin coaching a team for a new season, whether it’s in high school, college, or in the pro ranks, the anticipation is always high for your team to be the best that they can be.

The preseason is also a time of forgetting the things of the past, the disappointments from the prior season, and focusing positively on the new season ahead. One thing that’s exciting for all coaches is thinking about the wins and accomplishments that could be there if your team plays well.

In Philippians 3, the apostle Paul speaks directly about this topic when he challenges is to ‘forget what is behind and strain towards what is ahead.‘ That pressing on that he speaks of involves focusing on the new goal that we as Christians have, the goal of serving Christ Jesus, coming to know Him deeply, and ultimately looking forward to spending eternity in Heaven with Him.

Therefore, in Christ, we can forget about what is behind us, and press on with excitement toward what lies ahead not only in our lives, but in eternity!

“Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heaven-ward in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13-14
