Jon Gray was the third player selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 2013 MLB Draft. Gray has since moved up through the ranks, making his debut in Denver in August of 2015. This year, the 25-year-old was the opening day starter for the Rockies. In the season opener, he had 7 strikeouts as his club beat the Brewers 7-5 to begin the new baseball season.
Known for his burly physique, at 6 feet 4, 245 pounds, Jon looks the part of a Paul Bunyan type figure from Oklahoma. But even more than his size, Jon’s also got something else that stands out. He hasn’t cut his hair in over two years.
But the reason for the long, flowing, locks is a great one. “I am going to donate (the hair) to charity and hope to get other people on board, too. I am looking to cut it with June as the target date,” Gray told Denver7 last month. “I want to help out other people. A friend told me about it a few years ago, and it made sense.”

According to Denver reporter Troy Renck, Jon is planning on donating 8 inches of his hair to Locks of Love, a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children, age 21 and under, suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnoses.
On Gray’s twitter bio, it says he’s a follower of Jesus. Giving to others, helping others, and using his platform to make a difference, as Jon is doing, is certainly a model of the risen savior.
Isaiah 58:10 says “Feed the hungry, help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon.”
Gray’s light is certainly shining. Well done Jon.
