Perhaps, like me, you know the sting of rejection — of not being chosen. Maybe you were not chosen for a team, to dress for a game, to receive a scholarship, to start or to play. The desire to be chosen or selected runs through all areas of life, yet there are no guarantees. At some point, each of us experiences the pain of not being chosen.

Have no fear. As believers, each of us has been chosen by God. He selected us to be part of His family. This choice is not based on any personal merit, but on His divine love and favor.

The apostles were an unlikely crew. Thomas was a doubter, Peter a hothead, and Matthew betrayed his people. As a group, they were unqualified and left a lot to be desired. Jesus knew all of that and still He chose them.

In the same way, God chose us. He says, “I have fully seen you (the good, bad and ugly), and I choose you! I want you to be on My team, in My family.” In Ephesians 1:4, we learn we were chosen before the creation of the world. In Colossians 3:12, we are referred to as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved. In Isaiah 41:9, God states, “I have chosen you and have not rejected you.” God handpicked each of us.

When you find yourself hurting from being unchosen, look to the cross. Remember, Jesus died for you — indeed, you are chosen!
