Why do coaches feel so alone? I don’t think I’ve ever admitted it to myself, or for that matter, shared it with my fellow coaches that I’ve felt alone, even though I’m surrounded by other coaches and my family. I bet if you asked any of them that question about me, they would tell you Coach Joe Nu’u is not a coach who would ever feel alone. But if I were to be truly honest with you, I would say I’ve felt lonely more times than I’m willing to admit.
I get this way when I isolate myself from my relationship with Christ, which is the most important relationship that I could ever have. I deceive myself when I think that spending time with others should be all I need, because those relationships won’t be healthy if GOD is not my most important one.
Opening our hearts can be a very scary thing to do, but we serve a God who says in Matthew 11:28, “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
As coaches we need to learn to lean on our One True Coach, Jesus Christ.
