September means a lot of things to sports fans, but for baseball fans, it means every game could be the difference between making the playoffs and going home for the offseason.
On Monday, shortstop Trevor Story did his best to show the baseball world that he and the Colorado Rockies are a team many could be talking about in October.

Story hit two home runs off Giants ace Madison Bumgarner to help lift the Rockies to a dramatic 9-8 win over San Francisco. The win, coupled with Dodgers and Diamondbacks losses, moved Colorado into first place by a half game in the NL West standings.
Leading 4-0 in the first, and then 7-2 after five innings, the Rockies suddenly found themselves behind 8-7 heading to the bottom of the eighth inning before rookie pinch-hitter Noel Cuevas laced a two-run single to give Colorado the lead and, eventually, the victory.
“It was a whirlwind of a game,” Story told the Denver Post. “It was up and down, and to go down late and then come back in the eighth, that was huge. Hopefully we can ride the momentum throughout the (10-game) homestand.”
This has been a career year for Story, who hit his 27th and 28th home runs on Monday. The 25-year-old made his first All-Star game back in July and is now one of the key players for a team that is trying to get back to the postseason for just the fifth time in franchise history.
Earlier this year in spring training, Story shared with Sports Spectrum why his faith in Christ drives him to play baseball for a greater purpose.
“We’re here playing baseball, but we’re called to do something greater I believe,” Story told us. “That’s to further God’s kingdom and to help others to try to be like Jesus as close as we can. Obviously that’s the hard part. You’re here for that deeper reason, not just to play baseball. That’s the venue that we’re blessed to have and reach as many peoples we can.”
Story and the Rockies play their next nine games at home. After facing the Giants two more times, they play seven big games against the teams they are contending with atop the NL West, the Dodgers and the Diamondbacks.
