Few pundits considered the Seattle Seahawks playoff material entering the 2018 season after the departure of “Legion of Boom” stalwarts like Richard Sherman, Michael Bennett and Kam Chancellor.
Even fewer figured they’d be back in the postseason after the team started 0-2.
Now, you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn’t think the 8-5 Seahawks are legitimate contenders.
In large part due to another MVP-caliber performance from quarterback Russell Wilson (29 TDs, 6 INTs, 111.0 passer rating), Seattle has now won four straight. It’s made light work of the defending NFC North champion Minnesota Vikings in prime time. And it’s got a clear path to the No. 5 seed in the NFC playoff picture despite trailing the 11-2 Los Angeles Rams in the West, not to mention the second-longest active win streak behind the Dallas Cowboys. With games left against the San Francisco 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs and Arizona Cardinals, the Seahawks have a real chance of eclipsing their 2017 win total (9), if not topping it by a couple games.
So much for non-playoff material.
Amid the hot stretch, however, Wilson has stayed humble. His numbers β just two interceptions in his last seven games β are as good as ever. His team is about to defy the odds and looks poised for another title run. And yet this week, Wilson has repeatedly redirected praise upward, thanking God and calling for a grateful heart.

Wilson, of course, is well known for sharing his faith. A devout Christian, the four-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl XLVIII champion represents Jesus not only on social media but in his community. The founder of Why Not You Foundation, which is devoted to empowering youth, he’s often used his platform to promote the peace he’s found through a relationship with God.
He and the Seahawks will visit the 49ers on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. ET. A win against San Francisco would clinch a playoff berth and keep the team in the running for the No. 5 seed.
