“For I am convinced that neither life nor death, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)

Unbreakable Bond

No matter how long an athlete plays a sport professionally, there is a point where every career comes to an end. Some players, like Michael Jordan and Brett Favre, have retired once and then come out of retirement to play again. Even in those cases, they only came back for a few seasons before retiring for good. While it may seem like we watch the same athletes year after year, the reality is that being a professional athlete is a rather temporary profession.

Thankfully, God’s love for us is the exact opposite of temporary! In his letter to the Christians in Rome, Paul stresses that an unbreakable bond has been formed between God and His people thanks to the love of Christ. There is absolutely nothing in the world that can take away the love that God has for all of His children.

That means that no matter what we do or how badly we might mess up, God will never stop loving us! While that is not by any means a free pass to sin, it does provide hope and comfort when we make mistakes. It’s our job to make sure that we don’t take God’s unconditional, unfailing love for granted. What a blessing it is to know that whatever strain we might put on our relationship with God at times, we have an eternal, indestructible bond with Him!
