“Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making His appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.” — 2 Corinthians 5:20 (ESV)
Representin’ The Team
The NBA requires all rookies to complete its three-day Rookie Transition Program. Over the three days, young NBA players learn how to properly manage their money, contribute to their community, and avoid negative influences all in an effort to make them worthy representatives of their team and the league as a whole. Leaders of the NBA understand that each individual player is an ambassador for the league, and that the fans and general public will make judgments about the NBA based upon the behavior of its players.
The same is true for every Christian in today’s culture. People will make judgments and assumptions about Christianity based upon the actions and words of the Christians with whom they interact. This is why the apostle Paul told the Corinthian church that they were “ambassadors for Christ.” Whether you like it or not, as a Christian you represent other Christians and the Church to the world. There is not a required “New Christian Transition Program” available; however, God has given us His Word, His Holy Spirit, His Church, and Himself to help us in our effort to better represent His Kingdom.
“Ambassador for Christ” is not an easy job. Fortunately, just like the NBA does for its rookies, God gives us tools and resources to utilize as we navigate the Christian life. Take a moment to pray and ask God for help and strength in representing His Kingdom. He wants to help (1 Peter 5:7).
