“Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.” — Joshua 1:8 (NLT)

The most successful quarterbacks in NFL history are often the most prepared. Many believe that the quarterback position is the most difficult position to play in all of professional sports. This is why diving deep into the team’s playbook is essential for anyone looking to play quarterback at the highest level. A QB must study the playbook extensively so that they can make quick, informed decisions on the football field. Knowing and understanding the intricacies of each play allows the quarterback to quickly identify and react to anything the opposing defense happens to send their way. They must also impart this knowledge to their teammates to ensure that everyone is on the same page, and ready to do their part in the quest of achieving the ultimate goal.
This level of expertise doesn’t happen overnight. It can take years of reading, studying, memorizing, and meditating on the playbook before they reach a certain level of comfort within the offense. Next comes the assurance that they can go out and execute the plays on the field.
The tactics a successful quarterback implements with his playbook are the same tactics Christians should implement with the Word of God.
Read it, listen to it, memorize it, meditate on it, study it, live it, and share it. These are the things that Christians should be doing with the Bible on a daily basis. It will help us develop a deeper understanding of His Word. It will deepen our connection with God so that we will have a more trusting relationship with Him. It will help us discern what is true and differentiate between right and wrong. We will gain wisdom and see His blessings in our lives. It will result in joy, comfort, and assurance in our lives. But it doesn’t stop there. We are the salt of the earth — we must spread the Good News to others so that they too can receive the wisdom, joy, and blessings from above.
We all need God’s Word to help prepare us for our own trials and tribulations. Much like a quarterback going against an aggressive defense, Christians face many challenges here on earth that we must prepare for. Thankfully for us, we’ve been given the playbook for life: the Word of God.
