Daily Devotional: Wednesday, September 10 – Courage To Face Tomorrow

“Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” — Isaiah 40:30-31

The word “hope” is often misunderstood. In the world, hope is merely a wish, like, “I hope my team wins.” But in the Bible, hope means a confident expectation of what God will do according to His promises.

The source of your hope matters. Paul warned Timothy, “Command those who are rich … [not to] put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God …” (1 Timothy 6:17). Only God is faithful to keep all His promises. Second Corinthians 1:20a affirms, “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are ‘Yes’ in Christ.”

Hope and waiting go hand in hand. As pastor Keith Battle wisely said, “God never gives you an ETA, and you can’t track Him like Uber. The best way to wait is not by looking ahead but by looking back, remembering what God has already done.”

When rooted in God, hope gives us strength to persevere despite suffering. Romans 5:3-4 teaches, “We know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.” Hope grows as we witness God’s faithfulness over and over again.

As Cedric the Entertainer put it, “What was yesterday but the tomorrow we thought we could not face the day before?” True hope in God gives you the courage to face whatever tomorrow brings!
