“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. … Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” — Ecclesiastes 4:9-10, 12

When it comes to automotive racing, seldom does it get talked about as a team sport. While every driver races with other drivers, each one of those drivers has their own personal team. These race teams are as essential as the drivers themselves and are often hand-picked based on how well they function together as a unit.
Each member has a specific task during the race. The spotter, who sits high above the track, alerts the driver to their surroundings and things they need to be aware of. Down at the track, every member of the pit crew has an area to take care of during a routine pit stop. Someone has the gas to fill the car back up, several people are on tire duty, another member has to use a jack to get the car off the ground. Depending on the league of racing, there may be more specific duties to fill. Heading up the pit crew team is the crew chief, who communicates with the driver and makes sure each stop goes smoothly, and that the crew is ready for everything when the car comes into the box.
As a follower of Christ, each one of us is the driver of our respective car, so to speak. Just as the owners of these cars select pit crew members who give the driver the best chance at winning, God puts specific people in the lives of His people, all with different backgrounds and skillsets to help us in our journey.
Scripture talks about our walk with Christ as running the race to achieve the prize. While it is still up to us to run the race itself, it’s important that we all find and rely on our own pit crew that God has placed in our lives, so we may run the race the best we can and bring glory to His Kingdom.
