SS PODCAST: Georgia Southern basketball coach Anita Howard on coaching for greater purpose

Anita Howard is the head coach of Georgia Southern’s women’s basketball team. She is the first Black female head coach at Georgia Southern and was named to her current position in April 2019. Prior to that, she spent three years at Columbus State University (Columbus, Georgia), which she led to two NCAA Division II Tournaments and an Elite Eight appearance in 2016-17.

While in college, Howard was a standout basketball player with Fort Valley State (Fort Valley, Georgia), earning the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year honors three seasons in a row. She transferred to Armstrong State (Savannah, Georgia) for the 2002-03 season and led the club to its first-ever NCAA Division II Tournament.

Today on the podcast, we talk to Howard about her role with Georgia Southern, what leading with Christ in front looks like as a head coach, being married to a fellow coach, making the faith that she grew up with her own, and balancing being a wife, mother and coach.
