SS PODCAST: Actor Zachary Levi on mental health, faith, acting as Kurt Warner

THIS IS THE SPORTS SPECTRUM PODCAST
WITH JASON ROMANO, FEATURING ZACHARY LEVI

Zachary Levi is an actor best known for his roles in the NBC series “Chuck” and the Disney movie “Tangled.” In 2018, Levi appeared as Dr. Benjamin Ettenberg, a love interest for the main character in the second season of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” With the series’ other principal cast members, Levi won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series at SAG’s January 2019 awards ceremony.

In 2019, Levi starred as the title character in the superhero comedy feature film “Shazam!,” an entry in the DC Extended Universe franchise. In 2020, he played the role of Kurt Warner in the movie “American Underdog,” telling the story of Warner’s incredible rise to Super Bowl MVP with the Rams. And Levi is set to reprise as Billy Batson/Shazam in “Shazam! Fury of the Gods,” set to release on Dec. 16.

In June 2022, Levi released his first book, “Radical Love: Learning to Accept Others and Yourself.” In the book, he shares his personal story of grappling with a lifetime of historically crippling anxiety and depression, which stems from childhood trauma and the voices in his head that told him he would never be good enough. The book provides a raw yet honest, behind-the-scenes account of Levi’s life and career successes and disappointments.

Today on the podcast, we talk to Levi about his role as Kurt Warner, his love for the Los Angeles Dodgers, the importance of his faith in God, and why Jesus’ message of forgiveness is essential to all of us.
