SS PODCAST: St. Louis Cardinals coach Skip Schumaker on faith, discipleship, teammates

THIS IS THE SPORTS SPECTRUM PODCAST
WITH JASON ROMANO, FEATURING SKIP SCHUMAKER

Skip Schumaker is currently a coach with the St. Louis Cardinals, the team that drafted him in the fifth round of the 2001 MLB Draft. Four years later, he made his big league debut with St. Louis against Boston. He went on to play seven years with St. Louis (2005-12) and was a member of the 2011 World Series championship team.

After a season with the Dodgers and two more with the Reds, Schumaker’s playing career ended in 2016. He turned to coaching a year later, when he was named the first base coach for the San Diego Padres in December 2017. He spent four seasons with the Padres before being hired by St. Louis in November 2021 to be the bench coach.

Today on the podcast, we talk to Skip Schumaker about returning to St. Louis as a coach, coaching his legendary former teammates (Albert Pujols, Adam Wainwright, Yadier Molina), growing in his faith, the impact Wainwright had on his Christian walk, and blooming where he is planted.
