THIS IS THE SPORTS SPECTRUM PODCAST
WITH JASON ROMANO, FEATURING SHELBY ROGERS
Shelby Rogers is a tennis player who turned pro in 2010 at the age of 17. In 2020, she defeated Serena Williams in the Top Seed Open and became only the fourth player ranked outside the top 100 to defeat Williams — the winner of 23 career Grand Slam singles titles, the most by any player in the Open Era — in a main-draw match. Later that year, Rogers reached the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open, matching her career-best finish in a Grand Slam (2016 French Open quarterfinals).
In September 2021, Rogers upset world No. 1 Ash Barty in the U.S. Open, and ended the year ranked No. 40, her first time closing a season in the top 50. In August 2022, Rogers reached her highest career ranking of No. 30 on the WTA Tour, and she again finished in the top 50.
Today on the podcast, we talk to Shelby Rogers about being a follower of Christ on the WTA Tour, finding identity and purpose away from the tennis court, and the Bible studies she’s a part of with other tennis players.
Merry Christmas!! 🤗🎅🏼💞🎄Thankful for why we gather today – Jesus brought us love, joy, light, saving grace, hope, promise, and the most wonderful reason to celebrate!
