SS PODCAST: Singer Granger Smith on grief, death, God's timing, leaving music

THIS IS THE SPORTS SPECTRUM PODCAST
WITH JASON ROMANO, FEATURING GRANGER SMITH

Granger Smith is the author of the New York Times bestseller “Like a River” released back in August 2023. After 24 years touring as an award-winning, platinum-selling, country music singer-songwriter, Smith chose to leave the music business to pursue a future in ministry. Last year’s “Like A River” summer tour was his last as he moved into full-time ministry. He is currently working on a master’s degree at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, along with public speaking and authorship.

Over the course of his groundbreaking music career, Smith amassed a massive and rabid audience known as Yee Yee Nation, built through heavy touring and grassroots fan engagement. He has released 10 studio albums, one live album, and two EPs. Smith has charted eight singles on the Billboard country charts, including the No. 1 hit “Backroad Song.”  In 2017, he started the “Granger Smith Podcast,” where he discusses matters of faith, family, music and the outdoors, while spreading messages of integrity, honor, truth and restoration grounded in a Christian worldview.

Today on the podcast, we talk to Granger Smith about his decision to walk away from music, the importance of telling his story, growing up with Texas high school football, how loss can be a teacher after losing his son River to a drowning accident in 2019, and God’s timing.

>> Do you know Christ personally? Learn how you can commit your life to Him. <<
