Former Mets All-Star Darryl Strawberry gets baptized in Jordan River

Darryl Strawberry was one of the most feared hitters of his time. During his eight seasons in New York with the Mets, he hit 252 home runs and won a World Series title in 1986. He would play nine more seasons with the Dodgers, Giants and Yankees, finishing with eight trips to the All-Star Game and four World Series championships.

Over the past few years, instead of a trip around the bases, Strawberry has been taking trips around the country preaching God’s Word and sharing the love of Jesus with anyone and everyone who will hear it.

As part of his journey of faith, Darryl, along with his wife, Tracy, traveled to Israel to see and experience the Holy Land where Jesus walked. On Tuesday, Strawberry posted a video on his Instagram page of him being baptized in the Jordan River.

“I’ve achieved a lot of great things-becoming a world icon in MLB, Championships, All-Star Games, Rookie Of The Year, and earned millions of dollars, but what does it all mean if a man’s not free and loses his soul! Today was the most incredible gift I ever received in my life, being baptized in the Jordan River with my Wife!”

In January, Strawberry was a guest on the Sports Spectrum podcast, and talked about his journey of faith and why he’s so passionate about sharing Jesus with the world.

“It’s such a privilege to work for the Lord. I didn’t sign up for this, Jason, the Lord signed me up for it. Diving in and staying with God and not going back anymore,” Strawberry said. “This is what He gives you. He gives you His gift to speak life. The Word of God brings life. The Word liberates and I don’t think people understand about the power of the Bible. He’s going to use people that are willing to lay down their ego, people willing to say yes and people willing to enter in and go and speak life into others. If people are not bold to speak Christ and are afraid and intimidated, God’s not going to use you.”

Strawberry says the opportunities to speak and share are amazing, but none of it matters if it isn’t rooted in Jesus Christ.

“It’s about the blood of Jesus, the blood of the Lamb,” Strawberry told us. “We’re all set free because of the blood of the Lamb — because of Jesus dying on the cross for us and allowing us to have this life and have it more abundantly, so that we can go out and help others and tell them about the love of Jesus.”
