OneCoach: Position vs. Potential

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”—1 Samuel 16:7

A great recruiter can look past the position of a football player to see his potential in the overall strategy of the team. A quarterback with great hands can make a good wide receiver or running back. A fast running back can become an effective safety. The issue is not what they have done, but what they can do.

God does that to a perfect level. He’s the ultimate recruiter and strategist. He sees each one of us, not as we are known by our family and friends, but He sees our heart. From our heart comes our potential for Him. If our hearts are completely committed to His ways, there is a great opportunity for success on His team. However, that success may not come in the position that we anticipate.

I’m thankful that God sees me through the saving grace of Jesus Christ. God sees me as His child. I pray that God sees something of great potential in my heart for His glory.
