Maximizing Your Gifts

“And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:” Ephesians 4:11-12 (KJV)

We all have spiritual gifts. We may not know what they are, but if you’re not sure read Romans 12, I Corinthians 12 and Ephesians 4 to get an idea of what they are and how you match up to the gifts listed, or you can go online to take a spiritual gifts test. Your may have also have an athletic gift, whether it’s playing or coaching. When we recognize that gift, it seems we spend so much of our time trying to get better at our weaknesses. Maybe we should try and excel at our strengths.

I once knew a soccer player who was great with using his body and his right foot. His left foot was there, but he didn’t try to perfect it. He concentrated on his strength. He went on to make the Olympic team and win hundreds of games. He knew and perfected his talent.

Our Christian life is similar. We should focus on the spiritual gift God gave us, rather than trying to fit into a role in which we cannot excel. God made us for a purpose and he also gifted us for those purposes, as well. Let’s use them to the fullest and for His glory.
