“I have written your name on the palms of my hands.” Isaiah 49:16 (NLT)
There’s a commercial that has Colorado Rockies pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez spinning through a display of name tags, looking for one that says “Ubaldo.” As his teammate encourages him to hurry up, he asks if there are any more names in the back.
I can understand Jimenez’s frustration. Growing up with the name “Lois,” I hardly ever found any mementoes with my name on them. Plenty with Mary and Debbie and Kathy…but no Lois. But then my minister showed me where my name is prominently displayed in the Bible. Lois was Timothy’s grandmother (II Timothy 1:5), who Paul credits with having a sincere faith that she passed on to her grandson. After that I was proud to be called Lois.
I doubt that the name Ubaldo appears in the Bible. But it doesn’t matter if we can find our name on souvenirs, or even if we find it in Scripture. The most important thing is that God knows us and has our names written in His Book of Life.
