”But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” — Matthew 6:33

Who Is Your Center?

The center of a basketball team is usually the tallest person with the greatest strength and body mass. Whether on offense of defense, they play close to the rim. On defense, they are there to block and rebound. On offense, they work inside to score. When the ball is thrown to them in the middle, they pull the defense away from the perimeter.

Jesus Christ is our center. He’s bigger than Shaq. He’s stronger than Hakeem. He plays His role better than Wilt Chamberlain. When we give the ball of our life to Him, He knows how to lead us to succeed. He draws the defense (the devil) away from us. He makes the perimeter so much easier to score from.

Who or what is the center of your life? If your answer isn’t Christ, 1 Peter 5:6-7 tells us how to make Him the center: Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.”

We must give Him the wheel of our life by humbling ourselves before Him and surrendering control. That’s the way we win against the opposition. In 1 Peter 5:8, we are warned about our opposition: “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”

If Christ is the center of my life, the circumference will take care of itself.
