“I the Lord do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed.” — Malachi 3:6

Intercollegiate varsity sports history was made on Jan. 18, 2012, when Yale defeated the Trinity College’s men’s squash team in a close match, 5-4. Trinity’s team had earned the distinction of holding the longest unbeaten streak of any college sport in the nation’s history — 252 games. But that record streak would climb no higher with their loss.
In the world of sports, winners eventually become losers, and losers climb back up to become winners. A team may be great today and terrible tomorrow. Today’s hero can easily become tomorrow’s goat.
Similarly, we often find our lives in a state of flux as well, in big or small ways. If you’re going through a challenging time, it probably won’t always be so challenging. And if you’re going through a relatively easy time, chances are it won’t always be so easy.
Change, paradoxically, is the only constant in life. That’s precisely why it’s so critical to stay anchored to the Rock, the only One who does not change, and build our foundation on Him (Matthew 7:24-27). That way, no matter what type of change, or what storms in life are swirling around us, we remain at peace and secure. We are not blown over by bad circumstances or tempted to take artificial security in good ones.
The wisest foundation we can build our lives on is God’s unchanging one.
