“I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy.” — Philippians 1:3-4

We’ve all watched a basketball game where a great play unfolds: a steal, a fast break, and a teammate running hard down the lane. Just as the defender closes in, the ball handler dishes it off for the easy bucket. As they run back on defense, you see it: the back point.
It’s a simple gesture that means so much. It says, “I see you. I know you could’ve taken the shot, but you passed it to me.” It’s the ultimate sign of selfless teamwork — when your win feels like mine, and we acknowledge each other in it.
That’s what comes to mind when I read Romans 16. The writer, Paul, takes a moment to “point back” to the people who helped him along the way. It’s essentially a holy highlight reel of names: “Greet Priscilla and Aquila… Epaenetus… Mary… Andronicus and Junias… Urbanus… Tryphena and Tryphosa… Rufus and his mother… Philologus and Julia…” and the list goes on. These weren’t random mentions. Each name represented someone who served, sacrificed or stood by him. Paul wanted them seen, acknowledged, appreciated.
Our culture often forgets to point back. But great teams — and great leaders — don’t forget those who helped get them down the court. Romans 16 reminds us that it’s holy to honor others. It’s Biblical to shout out those who passed us the ball, ran the lane, or simply showed up when it mattered.
So today, point back. Let someone know: I see you for seeing me.
