After playing collegiately at the University of Oregon, I coached high school softball because the sport was my life; I didn’t know how to function without it.

I also landed a gig with ESPN serving as a commentator during a Florida State-Georgia Tech matchup. As confident as I was that this was my calling, I choked! I knew softball and could talk for hours, but once the cameras turned on, I froze. I fumbled throughout the whole broadcast. Needless to say, ESPN never called back, so I finally hung up my cleats after coaching ended a few weeks later.

Today, Eugene is home again and softball is a huge connection. God knew I wasn’t cut out to be an ESPN reporter, but He also knew my identity crisis needed to be addressed before anything else. I’m grateful softball is still part of my life. Fourteen years after calling it quits, God still utilizes softball to provide opportunities for me to connect with others. Instead of reporting live, I help athletes and coaches find their identity in Christ, not their sport or accolades.

Romans 8:28 (NLT) tells us, “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” God always ensures that things work out. Our job is to trust Him no matter what.

How can you trust Him knowing rejection might be used to help you stay in His will?
