Athletic stories are typically the tales of triumph: the magical moments when an athlete surpasses expectations or performs exceptionally well. This was usually this case for OSU gymnast Joy Selig. The 5’1 redhead who specialized in the balance beam was prepared to dominate every event in her 1990 opening meet, when disaster struck: she flopped in almost every discipline.
Read how Selig overcame her doubts, and what God taught her through the experience.
“Gymnastics has always been such a big part of my life, but that moment was really when I began replacing my love for gymnastics with my love for Him.”
By the end of her senior season, Selig was a three time national champion and seven time All-American. She was honored as the country’s best gymnast when she was given the American Award, and was inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in 2010.
