Redskins safety Sean Taylor died from critical injuries after a gunshot by intruders at his Miami area home in November of 2007.
His death left a lot of people around the NFL and the sports world in shock. One person that was forced to really do some soul searching was Taylor’s teammate with the Redskins at that time, Lorenzo Alexander.
“I haven’t always been a believer. I gave my life to Christ right when Sean Taylor passed in 2007,” Alexander told Sports Spectrum. “It really made me reflect on who I was and I had some other guys, James Thrash, Antwan Randal-El, our team chaplain Pastor Brett. Before that time, I wasn’t seeking God at all. I had an emptiness in my heart, I didn’t know how to fill it. But I came in contact with people who were living out the Christian faith and being evangelical about it.”
The former Redskins and current Bills linebacker shared that seeking the Lord was something that he discovered to be a priority of his once he became a believer in Jesus.
“Once you find Christ and give your life to Him, now it’s about seeking him every single day,” Alexander said. “Am I surrendering my life to Him every single day? My will for His will.”
Alexander just finished up his 13th NFL season and his second year with the Bills, where he helped lead Buffalo to their first playoff appearance in 18 years. He was named the 2017 Pro Bowl Defensive MVP and had a career year in 2016, where he notched 12.5 sacks.
