“And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” — Hebrews 13:16

We, Not Me

In an interview we did with St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright back in 2017, he talked about the importance of giving back. His desire to continue to remain in Major League Baseball and pitch as long as he can, so he can accumulate as much money as he can, to allow him to give back even more, was encouraging to me.

Most of us will never make the type of money Wainwright makes as a big league pitcher, but we can all adopt the type of heart he has to serve, to give back and to help others.

The Bible says to give, to be selfless, to love others and to sacrifice ourselves for the sake of helping those that need assistance. Maybe life is tough, maybe our finances are in a difficult place, maybe we’re just “too busy,” maybe we can’t give any money, but perhaps, this week, we can give of our time or our talents.

Perhaps we’re not as busy as we think. Perhaps if we focused on giving and serving others, our idea of being busy would suddenly change. Wherever you are during this season of life, may we fix our eyes on others and live a WE-centered life, instead of a ME-centered life.

And above all, let us strive even more for a Christ-centered life.
