God’s Character
I once heard a pastor say, “We do not have the capacity to exaggerate God’s goodness. We can distort it or even misrepresent it, but we cannot exaggerate it.”
God’s goodness is beyond our ability to comprehend. And God is good regardless of what our circumstances look like. This same pastor also said the week after having lost his father to cancer, “I will not sacrifice my knowledge of the goodness of God on the altar of human reasoning.” Despite the terrible grief of losing his father to this disease, he continued to praise God for His goodness.
It’s tempting for us to be angry when bad things happen and blame God for them, but the truth is that God is always for us. He is never against us as believers. God is not just good when everything is going our way, He is good all the time, even when bad things happen.
We must trust in the character of God. He has shown us through Jesus that He is predisposed to give us all the good things we don’t deserve and haven’t earned. He wants to shower us with His goodness because we are the objects of His affection.
