In between Liverpool extending its unbeaten streak in the English Premier League to 38 games with a 1-0 win over Tottenham on Jan. 11 and its showdown with Manchester United on Sunday, striker Roberto Firmino got baptized. The 28-year-old posted a picture and video of the baptism this week with teammate and fellow Brazilian Alisson Becker (the reigning Champions League Goalkeeper of the Season) in attendance.

Firmino also referenced 2 Corinthians 5:17 in the video’s caption, which says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
In his fifth season at Liverpool, Firmino has played a crucial role in the historic run the club is on. He started in last year’s Champions League final, helping guide Liverpool to a 2-0 victory over Tottenham to become champions of Europe. During the celebration, he wore a shirt that said, “A deus toda honra e toda Gloria,” which translates to “All the honor and all the glory to God.”
Firmino earned his team another trophy in December by scoring the deciding goal in the semifinal and final of the Club World Cup, a competition between each continent’s champion. He has seven goals and four assists in 21 Premier League appearances this season, with Liverpool on pace to set the record for most points in a single season.
If Liverpool holds onto its position at the top of the Premier League, it will be the club’s first title in the Premier League era and its first league title of any sort since the 1989-90 season. The match on Sunday against United kicks off at 11:30 a.m. ET and will be broadcast on NBCSN.
