THIS IS EPISODE 567 OF THE SPORTS SPECTRUM PODCAST
Heidi Burge Horton and Heather Burge Quella are twin sisters and former pro basketball players. Together, they led the University of Virginia to three ACC championships and three straight NCAA Final Four appearances (1990, 91, 92).
Heather was the 1993 ACC Player of the Year and went on to play in the WNBA with the now defunct Sacramento Monarchs. She also played professionally overseas for six years.
Heidi also went on to play professionally in the WNBA with the Los Angeles Sparks and Washington Mystics, as well as overseas.
In 1991, the 6-foot-5 Burge sisters were recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s tallest female twins. In 2002, Disney released a film on their lives called “Double Teamed.”
Today on the podcast, we talk to Heather and Heidi about their journey of basketball and Jesus. Heidi talks about the serious heart condition she had at 5 months old, and how she and Heather were able to overcome obstacles to reach the highest level of basketball. They also share how their faith has guided them, and what it was like to have a Disney movie made about their lives.
For #TBT, we bring you some fabulous news!!! Remember in 2002 when Disney decided to make a movie about the life of Heather and Heidi Burge? The good news ➡️ #DoubleTeamed is now streaming on Disney+. Figured you needed something to watch about now. You're welcome 😀 pic.twitter.com/eQFTmdSWi2
