“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” — Hebrews 13:8

Jesus Never Changes

According to several media outlets, NFL QB Philip Rivers, who retired last week, made more than $240 million in earnings during his 16-year professional career with the San Diego/L.A. Chargers and Indianapolis Colts. Yet, despite being a multi-millionaire, Rivers drives a 13-year-old pickup truck (and is also rumored to have been spotted driving the family minivan!). In a sport where money often is blamed for changing people, Rivers’ teammates have applauded him for his simple lifestyle that hasn’t changed just because of professional and financial success.

However, sometimes we need change in our lives, and not all change is bad. Changing from an unhealthy, destructive lifestyle to one that is healthy and loving, for example, is a good change. Moving from a lifestyle that is not honoring or following God, to one that acknowledges our sin and, therefore, our need for a relationship with Jesus, is the best life change anyone can ever make.

And when you do choose to follow Jesus in your day-to-day life, you can trust that our Savior will not change. The same loving, graceful, powerful and wise God who walked around Israel with His disciples in the first century is the same Jesus that we look to and worship today. In a world where things are seemingly always changing — except for maybe Philip Rivers’ cars — you can have confidence that Jesus will never change. You can always count on Him to be who He says He is. Walk in that wonderful truth today.
