THIS IS THE SPORTS SPECTRUM PODCAST
WITH JASON ROMANO, FEATURING TANNER MORGAN
Tanner Morgan is the starting quarterback for the University of Minnesota. He joined the Golden Gophers in 2017 and redshirted his first year. In late 2018, he took over as the team’s starter and has held the position ever since.
In 2019, Morgan set multiple Minnesota single-season records, including passing yards (3,253) and touchdown passes (30), and in a 38-31 win over Purdue he finished with the highest single-game completion percentage in Big Ten history (21-of-22, 95.45 percent). In the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, he started all seven games and finished with 1,374 yards and seven touchdowns.
After starting all 13 games and throwing for 2,044 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2021, Morgan stands at 27-12 as a starter, the most wins for a Minnesota QB in recorded history. His 8,072 career passing yards and 56 career touchdown passes rank second in school history, and his 61.4 career completion percentage ranks first. Because of the COVID pandemic, Morgan will return for a “super senior” sixth season in 2022.
Morgan was a standout at Ryle High School in Union, Kentucky, where threw for 27 touchdowns his senior year. He originally committed to Western Michigan, but changed his mind and committed to Minnesota when head coach P.J. Fleck joined the Gophers.
Today on the podcast, Morgan shares about being a Big Ten quarterback, returning to Minnesota for 2022, losing his father to cancer in 2021, working through grief, and how his faith in Jesus Christ has been his anchor.
I know my Dad got a “well done, my good and faithful servant.” He’s rejoicing in Heaven. I love you Dad, thank you for everything. pic.twitter.com/fsfUpXSfRg
