Daily Devotional: Thursday, March 10 - Move At His Pace

“For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. Now the one who has fashioned us for this very purpose is God, who has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.” — 2 Corinthians 5:4-5

“When things slow down, I will do that.”

Haven’t we all said this before? I seemed to say it a lot to myself when I was younger. Then I got married. Then I had children. Then life got REALLY complicated.

Family illnesses, kids getting older, career changes, you name it … you blink and everything is different. And where are you? Still speeding along in the same old minivan you used to drive?

God knows our lives seem long and busy. But He sees the whole picture. He sees the beginning of our life to the end of our life, and everything we do in between, and every life we touch.

Let’s face it: Life for us humans on this planet will not slow down. We can’t have the 80s back (and maybe some things we shouldn’t want back, like the perms and the jelly shoes), and we can’t really see what the 2020s will bring us.

But God sees the future and sees what His ultimate goals for our lives will be. It helps us to visualize our life through God’s lens, to see what we are doing that God thinks is important. Once we possess that God-vision, we can prioritize and live our lives for His objectives.

The Bible does not promise us a smooth journey, or health, or wealth, or any other earthly things. But it does promise us His unwavering love and commitment to us, and an unending relationship that will fulfill our deepest longings and the promise of being with God in Heaven. “For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. Now the one who has fashioned us for this very purpose is God, who has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come” (2 Corinthians 5:4-5).

Let us keep God’s sights in our minds when we go through life, and remember that if we love God, we will move at His pace.
