Tim Tebow — former Heisman Trophy winner, two-time national champion, NFL quarterback and minor-league baseball player, who’s now a broadcaster, author and traveling evangelist — keeps his accomplishments to himself. He is rarely boasting to others about what he has done or is doing. Instead, he looks for ways he can encourage others — one of those ways being his recent book, “Mission Possible.”
God wants all of our lives to be impactful, but not by receiving awards and recognition for what we do. We should aim to touch others not for our own sake but for the sake of others and for the glory of God.
“Let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth; an outsider, and not your own lips.” — Proverbs 27:2
The bulk of what we do throughout our lives that will be impactful will be in private. God sees how you encourage others and when you seek out others first instead of yourself.
He wants us to always have others on our minds and hearts. He wants us to live like Jesus. Christ is our example of how to treat others. He is our example of the influence we can and should have on others. Christ was always seeking people who thought they were nobodies, and He made them into somebody.
“Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.” — Philippians 3:12
Today and every day, remember that as Christians we are representing Jesus. We will always fall short of perfection, but striving to live like Jesus every day should be our goal.
Encouraging others without a crowd watching and thinking of others first like Christ did — that is the ultimate goal we should strive for every day.
