It seems as if the headlines over the past year have been a constant rotation of war, rumors of wars, disease, inflation, natural disasters and division. On top of all of this, we are all probably experiencing pain, turmoil and dysfunction in our personal lives, homes, workplaces and churches. Many times when we are experiencing personal or societal chaos, we wonder, “Is God in control? Is He on His throne?”
Are you asking those questions today?
In Psalm 46:2-3, we find a world in chaos. In verse 6, the nations are in uproar. There are wars and rumors of wars. From observation, it appears as if God is not in control, as if He is not seated on His throne. Running around anxiously yelling, “The sky is falling!” is the natural response when the world seems out of God’s control. Yet, in Psalm 46:7-9 we are reminded that God is in control. He causes wars to cease in His time. He is called the Lord Almighty because He has all might. Our God is a protective fortress for His people.
When we believe that God is in control, despite what our circumstances may tell us, our response is to be still and know that He is God (Psalm 46:10). Here’s a simple prayer to pray when you doubt God is in control: “Lord, remind me regularly that You are the Almighty God who is in control.”
