A few years ago, my car broke down and I needed to purchase a newer one. I wanted to trade in the old one, but since my friend drove me to the dealership, I did not have the old one with me. Before driving off with my new car, I signed a good-faith promise, guaranteeing my vehicle was in the condition I represented and I would bring it to them the next day.
Legally, a good-faith promise means to act honestly and to keep one’s word. We take a risk when we accept a good-faith promise. Some people are not honest, nor do they keep their word. However, this is not true of God — God is faithful without exception. He is faithful even when we are not.
There are endless examples of God’s faithfulness in Scripture, including bringing Noah and his family safely through the flood (Genesis 6-8), and rescuing us from the penalty of sin when we place our faith in Christ (John 3:16). As God’s children, we have the fruit of faithfulness in our lives. We demonstrate this through our honesty and by keeping our word to God, others and ourselves. Hebrews 11 highlights individuals who, against great odds, remained faithful and trusted in God’s faithfulness.
What about you? Do you trust in God’s faithfulness? Are you faithful to act honestly and keep your word? Call to mind God’s faithfulness in your life and thank Him for it. Then, seek to be faithful in all you do and say.
