Gee Scott Jr. may currently be a tight end on the Ohio State football team — which ESPN ranks No. 2 in the country — but he may have a future as a pastor. Regardless, one thing’s for sure: God is using him in powerful ways to bring glory to His name and impact His Kingdom for good.

Scott was given the opportunity to preach at One Church in Gahanna, Ohio (near Columbus), on July 14. In his 30-minute sermon, Scott focused on the story of the conversion of Saul (later known as Paul) on the road to Damascus in Acts 9.
Scott told a story at the conclusion of his sermon that in January he began to sense a clear message on his heart that God would bring Ohio State teammates of his to get baptized. Scott encouraged teammates throughout the spring to heed God’s call to come to church and undergo the sacrament of baptism, but his efforts were often in vain.
“What started to creep into my heart was a little bit of discouragement,” Scott said. “Am I not witnessing good enough to my teammates? Am I not evangelizing good enough? We do a Bible study once a week, am I not able to share the truth good enough?”
What he came to realize, however, is that “God don’t move on our time. God’s gonna move on His time.”
Scott’s prophetic vision came to pass. During the closing worship songs, Scott had the joy of baptizing seven of his teammates: Carnell Tate, Dianté Griffin, Brenten “Inky” Jones, Lincoln Kienholz, TC Caffey, Kojo Antwi and Jermaine Matthews Jr.

“I just want to make this aware so everyone in Columbus, the community knows in Columbus, what’s going on,” Scott told One Church. “Something’s going on on this football team. Christ is working on this football team.”

A graduate student from Seattle, Scott captioned his Instagram video clip of the powerful moment by quoting Hebrews 11:1. It says, “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”
Scott also writes in his Instagram bio that “I know who I am because I know Whose I am” and lists the Bible verses John 13:7 and Psalm 3:6. He describes himself as a “follower of Christ” on X. And although Scott is vocal about his faith on social media, especially Instagram, he also actively seeks opportunities to share the Good News of the Gospel with his community.
Scott, along with teammates TreVeyon Henderson and Emeka Egbuka, spent a Saturday in May interacting with fans, telling their testimonies, and sharing the Gospel at Upper Arlington (Ohio) High School. It was part of an event organized by The Walk Foundation, which seeks to “provide a platform for collegiate and professional athletes to share their faith in Jesus Christ to their communities and the world.”
More than 700 people registered for the event, according to WSYX.

On the field, Scott may have an increased role within the Buckeyes offense this season, as last season’s starting tight end, Cade Stover, was drafted by the Houston Texans in April. In his previous four seasons in the program, Scott made three starts with 20 receptions for 140 yards and two touchdowns.
