“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” – Galatians 6:9

Harvest Time

During the 2007 baseball season, starting pitcher Cliff Lee of the Cleveland Indians struggled to put up good numbers in the major leagues and was sent down to the minors. It was the first time in many years that he had to play in the minor league, but despite the discouraging demotion, he did not give up. He chose to continue to work hard at pitching effectively.

The 2008 baseball season began ominous for Lee. He was invited to spring training with the Indians, but was promised nothing and was told he would be competing for the last starter’s spot in the pitching rotation. He earned that spot and led the league for a good part of the year in wins and earned run average. Those are quite remarkable accomplishments for someone who was doing so poorly that he wasn’t even in the major leagues for half of last year.

In Galatians 6:9 Paul tells us to “not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Many times we are faced with situations where the easiest thing to do is give up, but we are promised a “harvest” if we persevere. So keep doing good, working hard, demonstrating the love of Christ and you will reap the harvest at the right time!
