“Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” – Ephesians 5:1-2
Be Imitators
Growing up, I imitated tons of people. I wanted to be Larry Bird on the basketball court. I wanted to be Tony Dorsett on the football field. I wanted to be Darryl Strawberry on the baseball field.
I loved these guys. I idolized them. I wanted to be them and do all that they could do.
As adults, we all have people that we try to emulate. Our parents, our siblings, our co-workers, even our bosses.
But if we’re looking for the perfect person to imitate in our lives, Jesus is the answer.
He gave.
He served.
He loved.
He forgave.
He cared.
He shared.
He fed.
He sacrificed.
He comforted.
He healed.
We obviously aren’t God. But his word says to be imitators of Him. I can’t think of anyone better to emulate in our lives than Jesus. Imagine if more people were loving. More caring. More forgiving. More comforting. The world would like quite different huh?
How do you want to live? Selfishly, or selflessly? Taking or giving? Hating or loving?
Today, choose to be imitators. Love, serve and care those you come in contact with. And above all, trust God.
