“For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith;  if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach;  if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.” – Romans 12:4-8

MIRACLES

One of the greatest sports stories of all time is how the 1980 USA hockey team defeated the heavy favorite Soviet Union and went on to win the gold medal. Rarely has there been a bigger underdog to ever win a major sporting event.

In the movie Miracle, starring Kurt Russell as USA Coach Herb Brooks, many of the details are shared about how the team was put together. I am not sure how historically accurate the movie is, but one quote from Brooks’ character has always stuck with me.

When he was told that he was overlooking some of the better players when selecting his roster, Brooks said, “I’m not looking for the best players. I’m looking for the right ones.” He wasn’t looking for an all-star team that relied completely on their talent, but he was piecing together a group of players with various talents that complemented each other for the greater good.

It can be easy for us to be intimidated by the calls to ministry we receive. Maybe you are not the best public speaker. Perhaps you don’t have scripture memorized that applies to every life situation. Or maybe you do not have a vision for the long-term impact of your ministry project.

The good news is that that body of Christ is made up of flawed men and women. All of us are not all-stars. God equipped each of us with a variety of skills that perfectly complement each other. Each of our skills are to be used to glorify God in different ways.

Instead of spending time worrying about the talents that we don’t have or waiting for someone “more equipped” to take on a task, allow God to use the talents He has given you to accomplish more for His kingdom than you could ever imagine.

Do you believe in miracles?
