“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asks you a reason of the hope that is in you with gentleness and respect.” – 1 Peter 3:15

Always Be Prepared

My daughter Hannah is a figure skater. She enjoys it and has excelled at it. Before she began, I knew nothing about the sport, so I had a steep learning curve. One thing I did notice was that you are all alone on the ice; no one can help you or do it for you.

I have played and coached mostly team sports. Unlike other sports, in figure skating there are no weekly games or matches. You see skaters practice all year long, many going before school and sometimes after school, as well. You will spend one year practicing for three or four, two-minute productions. Think about that. You practice daily, for one entire year, for thousands of hours, for a total of maybe four shows and eight minutes total. That is a lot of dedication for such a short program.

Unlike figure skating, we have daily opportunities to showcase our faith talents. Yes, we need to practice and grow in our faith, but we don’t have to wait for a few chances to share our faith or be an encouragement to others. We are given opportunities each day, so let’s take advantage of that by looking for and asking God to prepare us for them.
