“Then Jesus said to his disciples, ‘If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.’” Matthew 16:24
Determining Your Destination
I am amazed at the coaching carousel of the NFL. It seems every year that many coaches lose their jobs and new coaches get opportunities. In a sport like football, where individual players are less important and the team concept is essential, coaches and the leadership of an organization take on extreme importance. This explains why coaching changes occur so often.
Teams that have continually failed recognize that great leadership is needed, and apparently they know that it hasn’t been experienced. They are all looking for the next Mike Tomlin, the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Leadership is also important because who you follow determines your destination. It’s easy to see how this applies to an organization or a team, but what about our spiritual lives? Hopefully, you have found a mentor, a friend, and/or a spiritual leader to help you live out your faith. But, ultimately we are called to follow Jesus. Because who you follow determines your destination.
How are you following Jesus today?
