“Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.” Psalm 27:14

Things Take Time

Several years ago, Alonzo Mourning (now retired center of the Miami Heat) answered questions about coping with his injuries during a sideline interview. While watching his teammates compete in his absence, he wisely responded, “Remember the three T’s: Things Take Time.”

There is a reason, a season and a purpose for everything. Like a seed needs time for properly maturing into a plant or a block of coal needs enough heat and pressure over a sufficient period of time to form a diamond, we must operate according to God’s timetable. If we run ahead or even lag behind God’s timing, we will cause more harm than good to ourselves and those around us. Had Alonzo disregarded the proper time to recover from injury, he would’ve been more of a detriment to the team — through aggravating an injury, inability to perform at peak performance, etc.

Maybe God needs time to prepare us for something He has in store down the road. A spouse? A new job? A ministry? A trial? Let’s wait upon the Lord so we won’t miss out on the fresh fruits or precious diamonds God has planned for our lives.
