“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” — Matthew 5:16
Athletes have an incredible platform to make a difference in the world. Every day there are millions of kids and adults who watch everything they do on and off the playing field. This can easily be seen through the way football star J.J. Watt was able to raise over $35 million for the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund.
NBA players have used their platform to share their faith. Each of the last four NBA MVPs (James Harden, Russell Westbrook, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant) have thanked their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in their acceptance speeches. Even though this is the greatest individual honor they can receive in their sport, the first person they thank is God. They want the entire world to know that they are a child of God.
The good thing about the Gospel is that you don’t need a giant platform to spread the Good News. Jesus’ disciples were ordinary people. We can make a difference by following His faith each and every day. We can share His Good News to family, friends and strangers. Let your light shine!
They will know we are Christians by our love!
