“We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ…” — 2 Corinthians 10:5 (ESV)
Set Your Mind On Things Above
There is a saying that what you focus on expands. Dr. Caroline Leaf is a Christian neuroscientist who has studied this subject extensively. In her book “Switch on Your Brain,” she says, “Thoughts are real, physical things that occupy mental real estate. Moment by moment, every day, you are changing the structure of your brain through your thinking.”
When we focus our thoughts on negative things, worry, fear, etc., those things expand and become bigger in our minds. That’s not to say we should stick our heads in the sand and ignore problems, but we can take those negative thoughts captive and not allow them to become our focus. They are never bigger than our God unless we allow them to be.
Our thoughts are so powerful, and we have an incredible capacity to change our experience through changing our thoughts. What are you focusing your thoughts on? Do you need a different thought? I encourage you today to take every thought captive to obey Christ and “set your mind on things above” (Colossians 3:2).
