“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness.” — Matthew 6:22-23
Hunger For Righteousness
A few months ago during a workout, I felt an unexpected pain in my leg. After taking some time away from the gym to give my body a rest, I was disappointed when the pain returned as soon as I started running. After seeing the doctor, I learned that a twisted vertebra in my neck was putting pressure on a nerve, causing the pain in my leg.
I was surprised to learn that my neck, which had never bothered me and seemed unrelated to my leg, was the source of my pain. I hadn’t considered how they were connected through my nervous system.
There is a similar spiritual truth. We can sometimes fall into the trap of believing that sin in one part of our lives will only affect that specific area. The opposite is true, though. Poor choices in any area of our life, however small or isolated they seem, will eventually affect other parts of our lives.
Have you ever been really hungry? Of course you have. Have you ever been really hungry for righteousness? In Matthew 5:6, Jesus said, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”
Take a moment to pray and ask God to show you if there is any area of your life where you are not fully trusting and following Him.
