Sports Spectrum Daily Devotional: Wednesday, December 11

“‘Martha, Martha,’ the Lord answered, ‘you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed — or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.'” — Luke 10:41-42

True Rest at the Lord’s Feet

As Christmas season begins, Christians can often become inundated with countless opportunities to serve, people to bless, projects and causes to give towards, and families and friends to show hospitality to and serve during the holidays. Before one realizes it, the heart can feel as though it is being pulled in every direction, leaving one to feel exhausted, anxious and burnt out.

However, Jesus provides us with a path to find peace and rest in our souls through the story of Martha and Mary this Christmas. Martha and Mary welcomed Jesus and His disciples into their home, and while Martha was busy preparing the house for their visit, Mary instead chose to sit at the Lord’s feet to listen and soak in Christ’s every word. While Martha was distraught at Mary’s lack of help with the preparations, Jesus instead commended Mary’s heart and actions.

This Christmas, let’s follow Mary’s lead and take a moment to slow down and find true rest by sitting at the Lord’s feet. Before we jump into serving and loving on those around us, let’s first approach the foot of His throne and direct our gaze and attention on Jesus. Let’s make sure He has our full heart and love, and let’s allow Him to fill our hearts with His love. Then we can discern the opportunities to serve that He has prepared in advance and has called us for.

As we sit at the Lord’s feet, may we all find true rest, joy and peace this Christmas.
