Do you ever feel as if you are wearing a target on your back? Everything that could go wrong does go wrong. One challenge after another stacks up, leaving you mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually exhausted.

I imagine the Old Testament character Daniel felt that way. He was taken from his family and forced to live in a foreign land. His name was changed. He was to eat and drink food that would defile him. He was commanded to bow and worship a false god and confronted with a law requiring he pray to no other god but the king!

With each challenge that came his way, Daniel chose to do the next right thing. He faithfully did what was right in God’s eyes despite the possible consequences. In each case, the Lord proved faithful. He continually showed Daniel favor, including sparing Daniel’s life when he was thrown into a lion’s den.

How was Daniel able to persevere through the onslaught of these challenges? He knew his God. He trusted his God. He obeyed his God. As Daniel chose to do the next right thing, God gave him the strength and the faith he needed.

In order for us to persevere and do the next right thing, especially when life has left us weary and exhausted, we also need to know, trust and obey our God. Follow Daniel’s example. Start by getting to know God more deeply. Choose to do the next right thing.
